Zebra & Giraffe – Oxymoron
Monday, December 8th, 2008The music video for Zebra and Giraffe’s third single off Collected Memories, Oxymoron was released today. Marcus Maschwitz shot the video, and I directed and edited. It was great fun, and i love creating something that you can really get into, and this is definately one of those projects. Although the video looks super smooth, it was actually shot on a Digital SLR stills camera at 10 and 5 frames per second which really suits the feel of the song. We shot around 39 000 photos and used approximately 15 000 in the edit. Make sure you watch it in high quality on the website or on Youtube click on the “watch in high quality” tab.
Kirstenbosch Gear Geek

This one’s for the gear geeks. This was a first for me, and therefore worth a blog. Normally i use two very different sounding amps in stereo, a vintage Marshall, and a modern Fender and sometimes as on our last CT trip i used and AC 30 Vox and a Fender twin and was super happy with the sound. When we played Kirstenbosch Gardens, for the first time, i used two Vox’s. A 1963 AC 50 Vox + Cab, as well as a modern AC 30 Vox…and surprisingly it happened to be one of my sweetest sounding tones. I loved it, and Roger (best backline/monitor guy ever) solo’d my channels and listened to it most of the set which was cool. The first pic is of the two beautiful Vox’s and the second pic is the beautiful Kirstenbosch Gardens right before they opened the gates. Just under 4000 people piled in that day, and i absolutely loved the show.
Oxymoron Video Shoot
Thursday, November 13th, 2008Yesterday we shot the music video for the 3rd Zebra & Giraffe single Oxymoron. It was tons of fun, and we did it all completely by ourselves. Marcus shot a photo of each of us, after our performance shots… this isnt the ‘grade’ or ‘texture’ of the video, but was shot through a viewfinder of another rad vintage camera…love how they came out!!!!
‘pale males’
Friday, October 3rd, 2008our Zebra & Giraffe album launch took place at the Johannesburg Millitary Museum, which could have gone down much better if the manager hadn’t pulled the plug on our performance as we were a little louder then the Howitzer in front of us. Nonetheless we gathered a lot of press around this, and everyone stayed and partied. We also did AMP with Herman Pretorius this evening, in front of this tank where Marcus shot the photo above. We have you in our thoughts constantly Herman!! Vrede!!

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008oppikoppi was Zebra & Giraffe’s first ever live perfermance, and as nerve racking as it was i think we managed to pull it off:) i do wish we could go back there now, and play to the same amped crowd with a little more experience… this article was run in the SL music issue. photo by Marcus Maschwitz.
studio with cassette
Wednesday, October 1st, 2008
there is nothing more exciting as a musician to either be on tour, or to be in studio. we started in studio this week monday, with producer Darryl Torr and Openroom Productions. Its so much fun being here and is so rad to build on parts, and hear the songs develop. Other than not having enough food down here in the dungeon its been really great…it really is something super amazing to experience…this photo is actually from Zebra & Giraffe tour, shot on Greg’s old film camera… i will post some photos that Marcus shot of us in studio sometime soon…
